Mariese Bytschkow is a Senior Law Clerk in the product and public liability department in Maurice Blackburn's Melbourne office.

Mariese has 30 years’ experience handling claims for clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries. She regularly obtains substantial compensation for them, and has successfully taken on the State Government in numerous complex cases.

Mariese has a particular interest in bringing claims for the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She is specially trained in trauma informed practice which ensures she works with clients to access justice in a way that recognises the complex trauma they have suffered.

“I am dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for my clients who have been injured through no fault of their own," says Mariese.

Mariese consistently rises to any challenges that present themselves in her claims, and has taken on and won cases in many high profile compensation battles. Among the clients she has represented are the mother and brothers of Darcy Freeman, the five-year-old girl murdered by her father on the Westgate Bridge, as well as people seeking asylum who were injured in the Manus Island riots.

“I love the work I do. I love that every matter is different and you never know what is next around the corner. You never know what challenges are going to come up. I am inspired by the dedication of family members of people who are catastrophically injured and how they put their injured loved one first and foremost.

“Public Liability claims are not just governed by one piece of legislation so every day is interesting and you are always learning.”
