Decision to be handed down Friday in landmark poker machine legal case

31 January 2018
A decision will be handed down this Friday on the landmark pro-bono poker machine case being brought on behalf of former gambling addict Shonica Guy against Crown Melbourne and Aristocrat Technologies.

The case is the first of its kind to look at the design of poker machines, and how this contributes to players being misled on their prospects of winning and fuelling addiction.

A three week trial for the poker machine case was held in September 2017.

Maurice Blackburn’s head of Social Justice and lead lawyer on the poker machine case, Jennifer Kanis, will be available to speak with media from the Federal Court at the conclusion of the judgement, along with Shonica Guy.
